Chemicals in my Brain
Chemicals in my Brain

Schizophrenia is linked to alterations in how brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) communicate, rather than simply being caused by an excess or deficiency of one particular chemical. In individuals with schizophrenia, these signaling systems become dysregulated. As a result, some brain circuits become overactive while others become underactive, leading to symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, cognitive difficulties, and a lack of motivation.

I have attempted to capture this imbalance of chemicals in the following photograph using a long exposure technique.
